Lose Yourself in Professor Downfall’s latest release – ‘Sol’, an immersive, evocative, cinematic instrumental soundtrack.
No words, just pure sonic bliss. An expertly composed soundscape that you keeps you deeply engaged, listening intently to how the track journeys from start to finish.
The track opens with a reflective arrangement; piano notes form the base, intertwined with soulful, perfectly aligned guitar notes and precision percussions. Within the first minute, the track has evolved majestically into a spacious, evolving soundtrack.
‘Sol’ features some of the most immersive instrumentation arrangements you have ever heard. Akin to a few brilliant compositions from bands like Tool and Porcupine Tree, the track’s strength lies in its ability to evoke powerful emotions without overwhelming. The track flows at a steady, assured tempo, building harmonic tension and orchestrating its release with remarkable ease and composure.
The inspiration for ‘Sol’ came out a dark period of depression, fear and loneliness the artist felt during the 2020 pandemic. The artist shares, ‘”The EP SOL was written and recorded by myself at home in April 2020, as a way to cope with the depression, fear and loneliness associated with the then-new pandemic and the isolation it imposed on myself and many others. I believe that its melodicism and quietly hopeful moments – a contrast from my other projects’ (such as the simultaneously-released EP EADJ) louder, more guitar-oriented styles – were borne of a desire to feel any sliver of optimism at what we were then only beginning to discover would be a long, dark time”
What’s truly stirring about ‘Sol’ is how emotionally resonant it feels. It takes the listener through a range of emotions, cycling between hope, angst, fear, just to name a few. Listening to this feels like a deeply personal experience, and what the tracks evoke is bound to vary between listeners.
For seekers of intelligent, immersive soundscapes, this is a must listen.
