Proklaim is a rapper born in the UK and raised in Namibia. He is consistent with his musical output and has recently been stepping out of his comfort zone and flowing over beats from genres one may consider experimental for him. His new single “Daniella” is cheerful, fun and throws a grand party!
“Daniella” has Latin American influences in the choice of its sonic palette. The very vibrant and prominent horns add grandeur and the overall atmosphere is that of a fun party! The beat although very present, is not very heavy and is filled with clicky tones. In the second verse we witness a shift in the sound as the track progressed towards a more hip-hop aesthetic filled with synths. I personally enjoyed this display of versatility! Proklaim is seen flowing continuously on the track, giving us three densely packed verses.
The lyricism on the track consists of bits and pieces of wisdom Proklaim is known for throwing a listener’s way with lines such as “Still giving love is the baseline” and “Best things in life take time”. The second verse thematically deals with coming back from loss. The track prioritises the line “Revolution will be televised, it is on your cell phone day and night” through the device of repetition. We get some funny lines like “Too many cooks in the kitchen and the food stink” and “Never throw the baby with the sink” which ends the track with a chuckle!
