Purbeck Temple’s debut indie rock release, ‘Not Everybody Looks For A Reason to Run’ is an evocative, compelling reason to believe in the will to live!

It isn’t often we come across an artist for whom music is more than just creative expression; it’s a way to heal through severe trauma and help kickstart a new phase in his life. This track and the album it’s from, The Agorophobia Files, is a story of remarkable determination & resilience and being able to transmute all that pain, suffering, and anxiety into emotionally deep, melodious rock tunes.

Way back in 2009, Paul Gill, who hails from the North of England in a small village near Hull, was brutally attacked and left for dead right outside his local Public House. It left him precariously close to death, along with shattered facial bones, MRSA, and double pneumonia.

Paul lived to see another day, but at a crushing cost. His recovery took years of surgical interventions to remedy the horrific scars that left him unrecognizable, even to his own children. As a result of the attack, he developed intense Agoraphobia, a paralyzing fear of being out in open spaces.

Purbeck Temple was born out of Paul’s need to express what he went through and the life lessons he’s accrued along the way.

‘Not Everybody Looks For A Reason to Run’ is a track, coated in redemption and emotion, flowing on a strong, recognizable indie rock sound. Listeners of legendary rock acts like Audioslave, Creed & Nickleback will resonate deeply with the Purpeck Temple’s sound.

Knowing the backstory makes this sound all the more emotional and meaningful, although it is a solid opening track all on its own too. Every word & note feels deeply personal, coming from Paul’s lived experiences. His vocals, commanding yet vulnerable, are able to strongly convey his endurance, redemption, and creative persistence.

The lyrics are a poetic, deeply personal perspective of what Paul and his family has had to (and continues to!) endure as a result of that heinous attack. He was pretty much written off for dead by everyone, yet he battled back to life and its been a tough, intensely testing time since then for him and his family.

The chorus is particularly immersive and evocative, with the hook refrain, ‘Not Everybody Looks For A Reason to Run’, riding strong on dynamic rock rhythms. It’s the kind of compelling rock-laden emotion you’d get from listening to tracks like ‘Black Hole Sun’. It’s one that leaves a lasting impression in your mind & heart, after its last notes.

We’re captivated and in deep admiration and respect for Purbeck Temple and the larger-than-life energy and drive Paul is bringing to his music. If you’re reading this, give this track and the rest of the album, ‘The Agorophobia Files’ a listen and also share it around with people you’d like to inspire!

Out the most intense of setbacks, Paul & Purbeck Temple are making an even stronger comeback!
