‘Waltzing On A High Wire’ is the latest album by the award-winning composer and musician, Randy Edelman. Magic and bliss spread throughout this phenomenal album, with eleven songs. Randy has brought his years of expertise to create this masterpiece, setting a higher standard in the contemporary pop scene. Even as the entire album revolves around joyful themes, reminding the listener of love, snow and the cozy morning mist, each song incorporates an element that stands out.
In the track ’21 again/Coming of Age’, the album’s first song, the artist has incorporated spellbinding piano with a soothing sustain. As the name suggests, the song narrates a tale of coming of age, with a raw and genuine take. The husky and bold vocals in the song grip the listener, complimenting the beautiful music. In the song titled ‘Birds of Freedom’, the artist combines elegance and harmony to make a song that preaches of a better time. The song sends a message of peace and love, and how freedom is the result of living in harmony. It strikes a chord with the listener and you feel the emotions used to create the soundscape.
Randy Edelman has also explored themes of love and heartbreak in this latest album. Songs like ‘Pat Wants To Know’ and ‘Going Thru The Motions’ speak of desire in an original way that connects with the listener. The soft yet passionate vocals in the song ‘Going Thru The Motions’ convey such pain and longing. The song is bound to tug at the heartstrings of anyone who’s been through heartbreak and separation. ‘The Glow Of Life’ is a song that talks about a tender love. In the beginning, one can hear the sound of a small child asking Randy to play the ukulele and to tell her a story. The artist yearningly sings about his glow of life, being her and it brings such warmth to the listeners’ hearts.
In ‘Not a Pretty Place’, the music instantly reminded me of old-school R&B vibes, full of life and joy. ‘Up here/ Mountain Climbing’ on the other hand creates a melancholic atmosphere with its hard-hitting lyrics and mellow chords. The songs explore concepts of life and the trials and tribulations we face. ‘Nashville Salvo’ is another song that describes life in all its glory and expresses the emotions of the artist.
‘A Houseguest’ is a song that stands out in the album as it takes on a sorrowful tone. The song remembers someone who seems to come and go, a little bird or a lover. The artist has brought a contrasting flavour to the album with this song. Another song that is bound to be noticed is ‘Any Conventional Means’. The ballad-like song incorporates poignant piano notes combined with the ever-so-elegant vocals leaving a lasting effect. ‘Never The Hunter/ Lullaby for a Special Friend’ which is the last song of the album was a personal favourite. The concluding song is an instrumental track that transports you to a place of eternal beauty.
