Make Way for German outfit Raubtier Kollektiv’s commanding, metaphorical rap opus ‘Der Elefant’.
The track is part of the group’s debut conceptual album release ‘‘Zoo Deutschland’, a hard-hitting commentary on the realities of modern German society. As the name suggests, Ruabtier Kollektiv uses the zoo as a metaphor for the types of people.
‘Der Elefant’, the opening track, opens with commanding violin melodies and thumping beats. The strong, commanding German street rap flow, a nod to the characteristics defined by an elephant: strength, intelligence, memory, compassion, and wisdom. The track has a larger-than-life energy to it, this is the kind of track you imagine would rally a crowd, unite them in revolution, rising up against the status quo.
The chorus is particularly uplifting with repeated chants of Der Elefant ringing loud and far. The track embodies the spirit of the animal it portrays in every right. The group makes a strong statement with this track, the perfect opener to their no-holds-barred album that speaks, nein, roars about the ground realities and the issues that prevail in the animalistic nature of urban Germany.
‘Der Elefant’ is a track that balances social commentary with raw energy. It’s not aggression that they express here, but assertiveness. Like elephants, they care deeply about the welfare of their own and believe strongly in the greater good rather than the capitalistic greed they see around them.
For listeners of intelligent, thought-provoking rap music like that of Flypside or Papa Roach, listening to this track and the following album in its entirety is a must.
