Richard Green is an Italian musician and composer based in London. He is formally trained in music and has been releasing music since the end of 2020, building an extensive discography over the course of four years. “Legacy” is the third single from his 2024 EP “The Circle Closes” where he adds a modern touch to classical music.

The track features the keys and strings as foundational elements played by pianist Irene Veneziano and Archimia Strings Quartet respectively. The sonic palette of the keys is high-pitched, bringing in much brightness to the track. The strings are allowed to flow while the keys have a staccato effect and this juxtaposition is a pillar the song stands on.

The central melody repeats itself throughout the track with different variations, pauses and instrumentation in between. Around the two-minute mark the track switches its sound to somethings slightly sombre, led by the strings with keys in the background. The return to its former jolly self is an emotional journey. The way Richard Green switches between the sombre and the jovial gives “A Legacy” as sense of flow.

The track acquires new meaning in the context of being the third track in an album preceded by “A Place Called Home” and succeeded by “Your Angel”. The playfulness embedded in it reminded me of a show like Bridgerton. Overall, the track has a gentleness to it that gives the listener the feeling of a sunrise or a fresh start.
