Sandy King is a musician and singer-songwriter born and raised in Denver, Colorado. She has been learning and creating music since the age of seven and has a music degree from University of Colorado. For the past thirty years she been a part of various local music band as well as the Nashville Songwriters Association and American Songwriter. Her latest single “I’m on Summer Time” is about the nonchalance of her favourite season of the year!
“I’m on Summer Time” starts off with a really twangy and groovy electric guitar riff followed by Jazzy keys and light hi-hat-filled percussion. The track has a staccato cadence and plays with gaps, pauses and the absence of sound cleverly. It is decorated with many little sound effects such as bells, alarms and the opening and pouring of drinks, all which set up the atmosphere of summertime. The track gets progressively grander in terms of instrumentation with a lot of vocal layering concentrating especially on the second half of the track.
Sandy King gives a playful and inviting vocal performance! The songwriting is an elaborate description of all that one would do in the summer that would bring you leisure. It is reminiscent of a child’s summer holiday with no agenda except this adult version involves alcohol and promiscuity! In a world that is fast paces and filled with work, “I’m on Summer Time” is a reminder to carve out this time for ourselves.
