Drift away to Sarah Sharp’s ethereal blues/jazz-tinged cover, ‘Don’t Think Twice It’s All Right’
The Texan jazz vocalist, Sarah Sharp teams with a talented troupe of jazz musicians to recreate Bob Dylan’s “Don’t Think Twice, It’s Alright”, recorded live during one of her regular performances at the Elephant Room.
While Dylan’s original leans to his signature folk sound, acoustic guitar, harmonica and his impassioned vocals, Sarah’s reimagination couldn’t be more different. It opens onto spacious, gentle electric guitar notes and her soft, exquisite, smoky voice. In no rush, the track’s tempo flows along slowly and measuredly; each phrase is given space and emphasis.
Regaling percussions and bass ease into the composition along with mellow lounge piano, adding another layer of melody. Just past the three-minute mark, we’re treated to a sublime guitar solo, evocative and smooth, flowing along to the melancholic piano tones.
The concluding section has her jazzy vocals return to the fore, with her crooning stirringly, ‘You just kinda wasted my precious time, But don’t think twice, it’s all right’
Just listen to the original, and you’ll truly come to appreciate the effort from Sarah and her group in this recreation.
It speaks volumes to the cadre and caliber of the jazz musicality in glorious display here to completely reimagine a song and make it their own. Sarah Sharp’s ‘Don’t Think Twice, It’s All Right’ is stylish, compelling, introspective and slow-burningly beautiful in a way that only well-performed lounge jazz can be.
The track is part of Sarah’s upcoming, full-length jazz album, ‘Deja Vu’.
