Slate Blue releases a deliciously stimulating, whimsical electro-pop experience, ‘Coffee Black’!
Slate Blue are the dynamic German synth-pop duo of Stef Huber and Hardy Smieszek. Inspired by the dark synth-wave movement of the 80s that produced legendary acts like Depeche Mode.
Their latest, ‘Coffee Black’ is a wholly entertaining, pulsating dance track, an ode to that magical bean, without which we just can’t seem to get going!
The track opens with intriguing synth notes and sultry vocals, evoking a sense of mystery. The lyrics are hilariously honest and speak to a defiant dependence on coffee and just the way they like it, black with a splash of milk! It’s delivered with panache and personality, riding on infectious, bass-heavy grooves.
‘Coffee Black’ is reminiscent of the catchy 80s track, “Sunglasses At Night” by Canadian singer Corey Hart. Slightly unhinged but effortlessly cool!
Then, around the one-minute mark, the track takes an altogether fascinating swerve, ascending into an angelic melody and ethereal atmospherics, her voice suddenly tender and innocent. “All of my life I thought I was a cappuccino girl, until I took a sip of what keeps me awake till dawn” Its playful and humorous, especially when next a robotic voice leans in with ‘How do like your coffee?’
We launch back in the dark basslines with the vocals declaring cooly, ‘Black!’ Its an ecstatic moment, a little celebration for all the black coffee drinkers around the world!
What’s wholesome is just how fluid and unrestrained this track feels, freeing the listeners to really enjoy themselves! There’s so much to like about Slate Blue’s latest serving of flavor-packed, groove-inducing synth-pop experience.
