‘Circles’ is the latest immersive alt-pop single from Solum!
The London-based artist is back with a hypnotic, intimate sound that feels like it came out of a place of hopelessness and desperation, coated in an effortlessly cool rhythm. The track is all about that bassline, and from there it builds around a compelling tale of not being able to let go of someone you know you must.
The track opens with that groovy bassline, astral synths and Solum’s almost weary, dazed vocals singing ‘ She, Likes to twist all my words,But I love her lips and how they work, Like liquor with her body, its absurd. Insane is right, the artist sings about that insanity that drives desire and lust, even in the face of assured destruction. Yes, he’s gotten to the point of ‘feeling sick of going around in circles’ but he’s indecisive.
The song follows an unconventional structure, transitioning from his monologuing verses to building tension in that bridge to landing in that repetitive vocal loop of “again.” Its an infectious listen and perhaps mimics the rapid pace of life these days, never really finding a moment to deeply think through things. Constantly oscillating between working or running out of time seems to the state of many of us these days.
Back to the sound, we learn that this was entirely performed, recorded, and produced from the confines of his home studio setup. It speaks volumes of this artist’s creative intensity and unfiltered energy; he brings something special to this performance, that’s for sure.
For listeners of moody, melancholic, delicious-sounding basslines, this is a must-listen. ‘Circles’ has an infectious energy that has us grooving and singing along it and perhaps wants a repeated listen, again and again!
