Indie/Alt artist tcr! spins an unconventional, thrilling expression of self with ‘Yesterday Blurs’!
Fresh off his latest album, ‘Dear Rabbits’, comes a dark, unsettling introspection from tcr! where he questions everything. His sanity, memories, pain and suffering from heartbreak are numbed all right down with single-minded focus and steely, guitar-driven determinations.
‘Yesterday Blurs’ explodes to life in the most disorienting fashion. The click-led drums are the only constant in an otherwise swirling, chaotic arrangement of distortion guitars and faded, hazy vocals.
“The memories tattooed on my heart, your pictures are killing me, yesterday fades but I still see you…” The lyrics emanate a crushing anguish. Like the mind of paronoid, delusional person in heartbreak, denial soon follows with energized refrains of ‘Im Okay’, but underlying emotion remains one of deep hurt.
This is where ‘Yesterday Blurs’ dives deeper into hypnotic, sometimes dissonant riff sections, laden with restless energy. Finally, it breaks into a groovy, deep-toned string melody, interspaced with gripping riffs. It really makes for such an immersive, enthralling listen.
tcr! keeps the relentless tempo and riffs going right up the track’s ending. On repeated listen, you get a sense of it, like witnessing the fracturing of an already vulnerable mind into splinters. Of having to move forward from crushing heartbreak and betrayal with some semblance of sanity left.
Speaking on the meaning behind the track, tcr! shares, “The track explores memory, resentment, psychological fragmentation, and emotional self-preservation with stark simplicity.”
For listeners of dark, progressive rock that isn’t afraid to embrace the shadows, this will stick in your mind!
