Electro-pop duo Temple of BF/C release shimmering, immersive, futuristic synth-pop opus ‘Airbender’.
The duo of Barish Firatli and Joel Igor Hammad Magnusson (also known as Californiaman), both with distinctly diverse musical backgrounds, formed BF/C in San Francisco in 2015. Retro-powered synth harmonies, evocative vocals, and riveting drum beats characterize their sound, evoking imagination, exploration, desire, and longing in equal measures. They sound like a fascinating collaboration between Air & Daft Punk. The duo admits to drawing inspiration from Rod Stewart, Roxy Music, INXS, and Fine Young Cannibals.
‘Airbender’ is their third release of this year so far. A truly captivating electro-pop performance from the duo. It opens with intriguing retro synth notes that sound like a ’70s time machine starting up. You visualize a button lighting up randomly, buzzing and beeping, but somehow sounding melodic. It then launches ahead at a rapid tempo, with a drum machine beat, giving the listener the feeling of hurtling through space & time. An ethereal melody plays in the foreground, creating dimensional depth. The force is strong with this one. BF/C’s arrangement carries an irresistible momentum that sweeps you along for their fantastical sonic journey.
Around halfway in, the track magnificently changes tone and tempo briefly, taking a more upbeat, hopeful direction. The evocative, tender vocals add a comforting balance, with short lyrical statements delivered with some style and panache. Precise production combined with assured instrumentation makes for a euphoric, yet balanced listening experience.
This is a track for dreamers, visionaries, and explorers of realms, earthly & beyond.
