Ever had this recurring dream that you’re falling forever, but every moment feels like a glorious eternity? ‘Textbook Maneuver – Adrenaline Slip’ is a spectacle of ambient electronica that feels like the perfect soundscape to dreamstate.
Michael Keane is the man behind Textbook Maneuver. Stemming from his years as a classically trained pianist and scoring many projects, he’s now realizing his full potential and has released his 12-track debut album. The title track, ‘Adrenaline Slip’ is an immersive, mind-bending, Intelligent Dance Music (IDM) creation. What makes it intelligent is its eagerness to traverse sonic planes that you may have heard in the works of Jon Hopkins or Nils Frahm.
No words required here. It’s all emotive sound, frequencies, and there’s plenty of it to entertain, energize, and even hypnotize. At over 6 minutes, this is a track that takes you places. High hat tempo fused with wavy synths and evocative piano-driven melodies. There’s an immersive storytelling flow to this track. Oscillating from ever-so-brief moments of stillness, to blaring intervals, to flowy, airy sections. Its Intricate, bold layering, clean production make it a joy to listen to.
A breezy tempo and an intense, yet improvisational style make it a track of many moods and energies. Having done the recording, mixing, and producing all himself, this does have a subtle DIY feel to it. If you like to venture outside the sonic boundaries of what many consider conventional, this could be the perfect soundtrack to your spontaneous dance/movement session using flow props or just yourself.
