There’s no need to let the rain & thunder get you down. ‘Storm In My Life’ is a wholesome, heartfelt love song to get you through any wet weather!
Aussie indie musician Amanda Emblem’s latest release is a fascinating, uplifting take on love, life & relationships, drawing parallels to them being like unpredictable storms on our lives. This core tenet is conveyed like a fresh breeze in bluesy, folksy harmonies with guitars, harmonicas, and, of course, Amanda’s effervescent vocals. It feels like a wonderful coming together of The Beatles, Dido & Bob Dylan!
The track opens right away with Amanda’s soft soulful voice singing ‘You are the storm in my life’, vocals dancing on a bed of folksy strings and subtle drums. The smart pauses between each line serve to deepen the emotionality of the words. The rhythm and rhyming are just right. The lyrics convey a genuine confession of love and affection for the other. We all know that there’s a certain romanticism, a thrill associated with the arrival of the monsoons. Amanda connects that euphoric feeling to that of being in love and it works on so many levels.
Her vocal delivery is just right. Restrained but passionate, you can tell that Amanda’s inspiration for this song comes from her own love life. The subtle inclusion of backing vocals give her own voice a lovely texture and contrast. Like romantic partners reminding each other of their stormy love!
Accompanying it is just the cutest music video. It features a touching monsoon-time romance depicted through AI-generated scenes. It hits the spot in terms of storytelling and lyrical association.
Minimal but effective production and smart composition and arrangement make this an altogether fun, pleasant listening experience. This is simple, honest indie folk music and its remains in your head (and heart) long after the final notes are played.
