London-based prog rockers The Ancient Unknown deliver a blistering grunge, alt-rock track, ‘Separated’!
Listening to this feels like a collab between Godsmack & Black Sabbath. Thundering grunge rock riffs, crashing drums, strong, driving rhythmic progressions and compelling, heartbreak vocals.
We open to a faded echoing progression that explodes to life like a wildfire. Majestic and spreading quickly like one too. It flows with a dynamism and controlled aggression. It exudes an intriguing tension balanced with chaos. Setting up nicely for the opening verse.
‘Separated from my lover, don’t know when I will see her…’, he croons sincerely and despairingly. The verse expands dramatically, leading into the chorus, with the emotional intensity and vocal tones dialed up to 11!
‘Separated’ features some excellent guitar performances. Solos that draw the line between classic hard rock with modern sensibilities. It’s everything you’d love to hear as a rock/grunge listener in 2026. The music video goes hard too, featuring the band playing in wide open spaces, somehow amplifying the sheer theatrical hard rock intensity of the soundscape.
There’s something irresistibly primal and magnetically powerful about this composition from this 5-piece band, The Ancient Unknown. They present themselves with force and authenticity in a way that speaks volumes to the cohesion within the group. This is a group that you would love to see live for their wild, unique aura.
The Ancient Unknown consists of Dob on drums and Dan on bass, Antz from the Nest Nebula on the keys, Jordan Divers of Planet Thundermist on guitar, and Spin of Cephalopoda on vox and guitar.
