‘Case Closed’ is an emotional, immersive synth-pop opus from fresh new duo The Distant 2!
If there ever was a track that demands closure but makes it look so effortlessly cool, it’s this one.
We open onto stirring synth melodies, akin to ‘Summertime Sadness.’ It’s an intro that’s got plenty of gravitas, depth & emotion; it captivates immediately. The opening verse starts with a groovy bass beat and soft, defiant vocals singing, ‘One word One expression from you Enough for me to see Don’t wanna be with you’.
The lyrics ooze a pained reaction to a lover’s betrayal. The love that used to ‘keep her warm like a fur coat’ earlier, now hangs lifelessly at her door. The chorus is a liberated expression of being rid of such a burdensome energy. The vocalist, Arda Guevherian, sings with a sincere, angelic tone and confidence of someone who refuses to have her trust broken anymore.
‘Case closed Objection overruled All your evidence is flawed’ she sings with ecstatic enthusiam, a freeing declaration. The shimming retro synthpop soundscape, performed by Jonathan Wadsworth is just the right speed and melody to hold the emotional intensity expressed.
‘Case Closed’ is a track that rides high on that magnetic charimatic synthpop sound of the 80s with a modernly producec sound. Listeners of synthpop groups such as Depache Mode, Eurythimics will find a lot of delight in The Distant 2’s distinctive, melodic and genre-blending sound.
Adding to the retro feel, is a black n white, timelapse video of a cityscape at night.
