Take a trip down history lane with this cinematic, theatrical release from The Grey & Purple Songbook, ‘Tales of Scheherazade’!

Quickly, take your seats, intrepid audience, for the show is about to begin!

Grand sweeping violin arrangements serve as the intro, evoking tension, excitement and anticipation in droves. Just like those epic, theatrical movie opening credit scores, it gets you in the mood for storytelling, and that’s exactly what lies ahead.

The theatrical vocals launch into the ‘Tales of Scheherazade,’ setting the scene like all great storytellers. ‘In the distant land, where the sun beats down…’ The visual imagery created by the lyrics takes you right there, into the durban of the sultan where the famed storyteller, Scheherazade, resides. This is then a grand story of an even grander storyteller.

Over the course of a thousand nights, she regaled the sultan with one grand tale after another, resulting in the liberation of her loved ones. The vocals swell, along with the instrumental arrangements, crescendoing with pride as they recall her story. Mentions of Aladdin, Alibaba and a thousand other tales feature in the verses. It’s as if each line is telling a tale of its own.

What we really enjoyed was the attention to detail in the sound design. Intense and refined, you really feel like you’re taken back in time to the ancient bazaar streets of Persia, whence this story began. Expertly produced and layered, the Songbook crafts an immersive, powerful soundscape that supplements the vocals excellently.

If you’ve ever wanted to learn and experience history and mythology in song form, this is how you do it!
