Before My Eyes by The Radio Addicts feels like someone plugged a stream of consciousness straight into an electric guitar. There’s this restless little riff running underneath the whole thing, almost cheeky, like it knows it’s carrying the song. And over that you get the band’s usual alt-leaning voice: familiar/ goofy — just talking you through whatever’s been sitting in the back of his mind for too long.
The song sounds like angst wrapped in everyday stuff. Time, money, age, the boredom of doing the same thing every day. That line, “It’s funny how much of my life wasted staring out of…”, feels exactly like that moment when you realise you’ve zoned out again and half your twenties slipped past. Like all these half-thoughts flashing across your brain before you can grab any of them.
What really holds the song together is its indie rock bones. The drums and guitar are basically sprinting the entire time. There’s this sense that the players are pushing themselves past what’s comfortable, sounding like it must have actually hurt to play. like the drummer and guitarist just powered through it. It’s the sound of a band trusting their energy more than perfection, and that’s what makes it fun.
The Radio Addicts are an indie rock band that gets the basics right without overthinking it. Loud guitars, a driving rhythm section, and a voice that sits comfortably in that alt-rock register.
