The Wow Wows deliver a startlingly awesome classic rock track, ‘Johny’s Gone Invisible’
Its a track that immediately makes you sit and take notice. Raw, infectiously fun, with just the right amount of soul-gripping distortion riff grooves, Zeppelin-esque vocal panache and plenty of whimsy to boot.
The four-piece psych rock group out of Idaho makes a stunning return to the scene with ‘Johny’s Gone Invisible’, a track that hilariously trolls you, dear listener, with that initial riff. For a minute there you think you’re hearing a Chuck Berry cover that’s then rudely interrupted and brilliantly recovered.
Into a stirring, distortion rock groove on a relaxed tempo and intriguing cowbells in the background. It’s invigorating and thrilling, like only classic rock can be, especially with those Robert Plant-esque vocal croons. That strong bassline holds as it leads into the opening verse, ‘Johnny Gone Invisible, Suzy doesn’t need him there…’. The whimsical prose staggers on relentlessly; we love the pause between lines, giving the words depth and emotion.
The track feels like the soundtrack to a wild, all-night bender. The vocal wails adds that nostalgic dimension of wildness we’ve seen from legends from the 70-80s era of free-flowing rock. ‘Johny’s Gone Invisible’ feels like a legendary good time you’ve been aching to have, and we’re all for The Wow Wow’s irresistible charm and confidence on full exhibition here.
At just the 2 min mark, we’re blessed with a screeching, piercing guitar solo, leading into a moody, psychedelic outro section. The bassline jumps up a few notches, the vocals get a bit more unhinged, and the track slowly fades out, like you’re descending into a blackout.
Free-spirited, authentic and downright awesome would suitably describe the vibe of this track and we look forward to hearing a lot more from The Wow Wows!
