Torrio delivers a thumping, scathing warning to the two-faced schemers & haters in his life, with his latest, ‘Snakes’!
From its very first moment, ‘Snakes’ has you sitting up and taking notice.
Blasting bass beats and air raid sirens create a uniquely hypnotising, contrasting vibe of panic and cool, cool composure. In the background, a voice echoes, ‘Trust no one’, while female vocals in the foreground flow seductively.
It’s a superb opening that harkens to the simpler, realer times of hip-hop and rap (Think Tupac, B.I.G & Wu Tang, just to name a few!) when just a few audio elements, confidently laid upon a sick rap beat, were all you really needed to put your point across.
Torrio makes a commanding entrance into the fray, laying down a devastating lyrical flow. He makes sure to highlight the kind of people he’s had the ill fortune to know, the kind with the fake handshakes and smiles, the ones who wouldn’t hesitate to stick a knife in his back.
The contempt in his voice is crystal clear, yet he does excellently to balance that with a supreme air of confidence and ruthlessness. His rough, gruff, Ice Cube-like rap flow is balanced beautifully with the introduction of sultry female vocals in the chorus, singing evocatively, ‘Two Faced snakes, backstabbing….’. Its ruthless, yet so catchy melodically with deeper implications & connotations.
Musically, the combination of beats and subtle ominous melodies, sirens, and sultry vocals make for an unforgettable listening experience. Its the kind of honest, hard-hitting, gritty rap blended with hip hop & R&B that made this genre one of the most listened to in th late nineties and 2000s.
Torrio delivers a dark, menacing track, loaded with razor sharp self-awareness, serving as rocket fuel for his own sanity, self-protection and growth.
