‘Serpent’ is a tense, alt-pop powered self-inquiry from the enigmatic Violet Love

As the opening track to Violet Love’s latest 3-track EP release, ‘Designed to Fail’, ‘Serpent’ makes no attempt to please or impress. Instead, what it is is an urgent expression of how trauma has impacted the artist’s life and worldview.

“I’ve spent the last year of my life trying to be brutally honest with myself about absolutely everything, even when it hurt.” Violet Love says of the new EP. “It has led me to where I am today, feeling like we are all Destined to Fail.”

‘Serpent’ opens in uncomprimisingly dark, yet tender fashion, soft melodies play while the lead vocals sing with angst and vulnerability, ‘Im grieving the loss of my self,…. if beauty is pain, I can’t tell…’.

The rhyming, poetic lyrics paint a raw picture of a troubled mind, trapped in vicious cycles of anxiety and self-induced pain. The vocals perfectly match the tension and paralyzing uncertainty that the lyrics express. For anyone who’s ever felt similar, this will resonate deeply and personally.

Intriguing, light arrangements, fragile string harmonies, subtle beats and effects all contribute to creating an emotional, immersive soundscape. One that sounds like the inside of a troubled mind.

At just over two minutes, ‘Serpent’ says what it needs to without too much fuss. It expressing just how excruciatingly difficult it can be to be brutally honest with ourselves, but therein lies the first steps to understanding the depths of our own pain and suffering.

As the first of the three tracks tracks from the ‘Designed to Fail’ EP, ‘Serpent’ makes a compelling opening statement, ones that compells listeners to move forward into this mind-exploring, heart-healing journey with Violet Love.

We love the authenticity, vulnerabiliuty and heart shown by this artist with this release. It speaks volumes to his courage and character to be able to come forth about his fragile state of mind so openly, creating a safe container for expression and release.
