‘If I Could Say’ is an emotional, heartfelt pop-rock confession from debutant William Locks!
Listening to this makes you feel deeply about what’s really important in this short, short life. It’s a stirring, sweeping pop-rock track that bleeds honesty and remorse, built around the emotional core of not being able to say ‘I love You’ to the person who matters the most.
Years ago, the Dutch artist from Rotterdam, William, lost his partner in a car accident. At the time, the crushing grief and trauma were buried under a guilt-hardened shell that prevented him from really feeling through the pain. Over time, working through his emotions, he’s now finally able to transmute all that was left unsaid into this compelling realization that forms the core of ‘If I could say’.
We open onto mournful arrangements, nostalgic from the get-go. William’s sincere vocals bear it all, shaking with emotion, alongside evocative arrangements. It’s one of the most compelling, stirring track openings we’ve heard since Charlie Puth x Wiz Khalifa’s ‘See You Again’.
Time and time again, we’ve heard just how meaningful and beautiful music is as a medium for healing expression. William superbly proves this point, singing from a deeply personal space, evoking a deep emotionality as you begin to think of everyone in your life that you’ve loved and lost.
Musically, we’re captivated by simple yet spacious guitar arpeggios, allowing for his every word to hit that little deeper. Especially when he takes the high notes in the chorus, it’s a particularly sharp emotional moment, and we’re honestly close to tears listening to this, over and over.
“If I could say’ isin’t just a track you listen to, you feel it in every fiber of your being. William touches on a universally powerful sentiment – Life is Short. Enjoy it while we can. Say the words you’re holding back, because you never know if there will be a tomorrow. There’s only ever the NOW. Say what you need to say.
We’ve been deeply moved by what we’ve heard from this stunning debut track and look forward to hearing a lot more from William Locks.
