Texan Alt-rockers Zegovia release generational, evocotive single, ‘Flies’

Zegovia is Seth Mireles (guitar and vocals), Matt Mireles (drums), Quincy Cotton (guitar and vocals), and Alex Larson (bass and vocals). Known for their punk rock-powered sound, led by Seth’s piercing, poetic lyricism.

‘Flies’ opens with pleasing strums leading into a gentle, soulful opening verse. Seth’s vocals caress gently, flowing on a bed of suave instrumentation. The lyrics are a not-so-subtle jab at the dog-eat-dog world of music politics and accompanying mind games. Each trying to one up the other and preying off the vulnerabilities of musicians in general.

The title is a reference to those preying, jealous energies that linger around the growth journey of an upcoming music group. Like flies, they swarm when they sense competition, they invade and try to feed off the good energies. However, just like flies, they can be easily swatted away too!

The track continues foward, graually picking up momentum and then, in a moment of cathartic bliss, explodes into a heavy section, blaring riffs, crashing drums and Seth’s vocal intensity dialled up to 11.

It’s quite a brilliant contrast to how the track started. Yet, this explosion of rock feels totally natural and welcoming, in fact. There’s a refreshing punk rock energy expressed through the grungy riffs sections that evoke a faint nostalgia.

The track concludes on a strong note with the lyrics emphasizing that being a musician is hard, lonesome work and one should just stay the course, trust yourself and your mates and avoid falling prey to toxic culture and people who only serve to pull you down.

We love what we’ve rocked out to from Zegovia and look forward to checking out their latest album ‘Observe’!
