The Crazy Toads are back with yet another pounding, goth-rock subversion with their single, Christmas day everyday. The Swedish-rock duo revolutionize Christmas with their signature dark and ironic expositions. For this particular single, Bernth Nystrom and Rickie Silwerhorn draw from rock and roll in addition to their usual punk and reggae influences.

The low tonal baritones are swathed in passionate cynicism as they march through the thunderous riffs. As we cross over to the other side, Christmas is an ashen celebration. It’s a Halloween-themed Christmas with haunting harmonies and dark punk elements assembled for Christmas day. The artists create a deliberate incongruence between the lyrics and their vocal delivery. The apathetic and insouciant showcase is so far-fledged from the conventional Christmas aesthetic.

There’s so much going on in that the track is compositionally complex! The beats rally their own punk revolution as the dark, jangled riffs resonate with a grunge frequency. We see the sparing use of sparkling melodies like violins and warm tongues of guitar melodies to further accentuate their doleful musical caricature of Christmas. The artists dilate the soundscape and fill it with a variety of textures. Following in the footsteps of their previous single, Christmas on the Moon, the artists’ Christmas ball and banquet is not for the faint-hearted.
