DETENTION is a high-energy pop-punk/alt-rock band of teens from Akron, Ohio. Exploring the angst and experience of youth, the band delivers sophistication. Their compositions are both power intensive and emotionally rich. In their latest single, Peachy Keen, DETENTION showcases the anxious clairvoyance that clouds a teenager’s mind.
The track is a quest for clarity, through the miasma of self-doubt, loneliness, and insanity. It opens with rippling string acoustics that follow the pastel sopranos. Narrative driven, the lyrics intricately present the song’s theme. And in a fit of control and power, a sudden and drastic switch propels us into an electric punk space. Geared with gunning riffs and emphatic vocals and hard hitting beats, it takes on an empowered spirit.
DETENTION is lead singer Elliott Carter, bassist Fritz Dannemiller, drummer Luke Konopka, and guitarist Evan Cox. Since their debut in 2019, the band quickly rose to fame, reputed for their lively sonic disposition and terrific will to play. They crushed the main stage at the PorchRokr festival with 2,000+ fans and played the WonderStuck, WonderBus and WonderRoad festivals. And had crowd- surfing fans as they won the 24th Annual Tri-C High School Rock Off at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2020, then won the Best Punk Band at the Cleveland Music Awards in 2022.
The track is available for streaming on Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube Music, and Amazon Music!
