Paul Bibbins has just released his debut EP, ‘Disenchantment at a Distance’. The collection of four songs carry a distinct rock imprint, blended in with blues, some soul, and in some parts, we see some experimental sequences. Part of this release is, ‘Bold, Beautiful… And Long Gone!’. The artist breaks the soundscape into parallel universes of instrumentation and vocals. Across a backdrop of bold riffs, Paul’s vocals spread out with a storyteller’s rhythm. The guitar work is intensely grooved and patterned to follow the emotion in the verse delivery.
It instantly stands out as eccentric. The asymmetrical rhythm design is experimental. As Paul delves into the blues of losing a beautiful woman, the languid passion of it shows up in his vocal delivery. With progressions, we see instrumental arcs that reinforce this air of gloominess. The listening experience of this track often takes us back to retro interpretations of soul/blues music. Its artistic conception and execution is poignant in a way that we haven’t seen since the 80s and the 90s, while also retaining a contemporary element to it.
The track is available for streaming on popular sites like Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube Music, and Amazon Music!
