The Amber Bugs, loosely put is a blues rock band with an affinity for redefinition. The band keeps it real, staying staunchly close to what inspires them. And therein lies all their appeal. Influenced by artists like Talking Heads, Van Morrison, Fiende Fatale, Paul Simon, and Ben Folds (among others), their music is distinctly theirs with rock, jazz, a little funk, and pseudo folk influences. The Amber Bugs have just released their latest EP, titled Based on a True Story. It hosts four tracks – the title track alongside three versions of ‘BOATS’.

This review unpacks the title track, in all its candor and raw details. It is led by the husky baritones of the vocalist, measured carefully with nostalgia and melancholy. Accessorized by lilting acoustic guitar and piano melodies, the soundscape is exposed to drastic and dramatic instrumental inflections. It’s colored by cinematic synergies of jazz and blues. The track is a resplendent exercise in storytelling. Listen Now!

The Amber Bugs debuted in 2016 with their single, ‘etched in rust’ and has since released a over ten singles across seven years.
