London-based Taiwanese singer-songwriter, composer, producer, and multi-instrumentalist, Artela has just released her debut single, Seven. With powerful basses, ominous melodies, and hyper beats, the track retrospectively traces the details of the artist’s experiences growing up. The layered soundscape tells a story of Artela’s fear, insecurity, and paranoia, living in a society whose inhabitants were different than her. The use of dystopian builds and eerie sonic design is an effort made towards conceptualizing the experience so that the listener is immersed in the narrative as the protagonist.

The track blooms with an avant-garde framework. Its oscillating rhythm language and ethereal progressions create an echoing atmosphere of discordance. The effervescent vocals descend like a blanket of loneliness, undulating in the face of formidable bass lines. However, as the song evolves, its persona transforms with pulsing beats. The mantric threads of falsettos no longer exude complacency and dread but flow with effortless peace. This sonic metamorphosis perhaps alludes to the artist’s reclamation of herself and her identity from the abyss of social rejection. Listen Now!

The track is available for streaming on popular sites like Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube Music, and Amazon Music!
