Joey Sachi’s latest composition, ‘grace’ has us floating in relaxation and calm!
Created in a city of perpetual activity, Tokyo, by the Aussie-born artist Joey Sachi, ‘grace’ is a precious invitation to slow down and find stillness. As the lead track from her forthcoming debut EP, the track has us enamored by her gentle, angelic vocals and the accompanying minimal electro-alt-pop sound.
‘grace’ opens on warm, enveloping vocal arrangements, with space and depth aplenty. Her intimate vocal delivery style has you leaning in to listen closer, to feel every word she sings.
‘Know Il always count on…..You…….To see the beauty as I do….. Take my hand to let me lead….’
Sachi describes the song as an “ode to those who have the power to change our perspectives and see the beauty in every moment.”
In a society that seems to overvalue speed and efficiency, Sachi is bravely challenging the prevailing status quo and instead nurturing a mindset of slowing down, being present, being grateful and loving, and being in grace! It’s then that we really get to experience the littlest of joys and loveliness that exists in the world around us.
It’s a move that feels crucially relevant to the fast-paced, indifferent culture we see not only around the world but especially in the dog-eat-dog Japanese culture.
We learn that ‘grace’ was self-recorded in the heart of Tokyo, in Sachi’s intimate home studio. Eclectic producer AKINAT was instrumental in taking Sachi’s raw demo and turning into something so light and fresh!
Musically, ‘grace’ is full of little surprises but flows at a thoroughly relaxed, gentle tempo. While Sachi’s vocals are no doubt the centerpiece of the opus, it’s actually the electronic elements and textures that really make this a fascinating listen.
From the halfway mark, the track leans further into its electronicality. astral synth tones and deep atmospherics change the mood into a more sombre, reflective way. That final section, starting at the 2.10 mark, is one of the most captivating outros we’ve heard in some time. It’s Radiohead-esque in its piercing, almost melancholic, contemplative electronic sound.
Overall, we’re feeling more than relaxed just listening to ‘grace.’ It’s spellbinding effects last awhile after the track has long subsided.
Take a deep breath and surrender to this surrealistic composition!
